Georgia Hosts Last Chance Meet This Weekend at Gabrielsen

ATHENS, Ga. – Following a successful week at the SEC Championships, the University of Georgia swimming and diving programs return home to Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium this weekend for the annual Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet.
The meet features prelims and finals sessions on both Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3, with prelims starting both days at 10 a.m. Saturday finals will start at 5 p.m., with Sunday finals beginning at 4 p.m. Admission for all sessions is free, with live results available on GeorgiaDogs.com and to paid subscribers on MeetMobile.
Georgia will be joined at Last Chance by SEC rivals Alabama, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt, as well as regional institutions Miami (Fla.) North Carolina, NC State, and UNC Asheville. Other competing schools include Brown, George Washington, Harvard, Hawaii, and Pitt.
The Last Chance meet provides one final opportunity for swimmers to earn an NCAA Championship-qualifying time or improve upon their existing provisional cut. 51 Bulldog swimmers are entered in this weekend's competition, including numerous swimmers who did not compete at the SEC Championships.
Last week in Auburn, Georgia posted a strong performance against a loaded conference field, winning a combined 21 medals. The men's team finished third overall with 1,042 points, while the women's team placed fifth with 822 points, with both teams improving both in standing and points. Senior Jake Magahey and junior Abby McCulloh each won SEC titles, with Magahey prevailing in the 500-yard freestyle and McCulloh touching first in the mile.
The men's team set four school records on the final day of competition: graduate Bradley Dunham in the 200y backstroke, junior Reese Branzell in the 100y freestyle, and the 400y freestyle relay. Overall, the Bulldogs posted 57 personal-best times and picked up 16 NCAA automatic-qualifying times.
Following this weekend's meet, Georgia turns its attention to the NCAA Championships, beginning with the Zone B Diving Championships, running March 10-13 at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium. Georgia will also host the NCAA Women's Championships on March 20-23, followed by the Men's Championships in Indianapolis on March 27-30.
