Georgia Set To Begin Five-Match Road Trip, Open at Georgia Tech

February 17, 2024 | Women's Tennis

ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 8-ranked Georgia women's tennis team is set to begin a five-match road trip, opening against in-state rivals Georgia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 18 at noon ET at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs (4-3) are coming off back-to-back top 10 victories in consolation play at the ITA Indoor Championships after knocking off then-ranked No. 8 Florida and No. 9 Texas A&M.

Georgia Tech (4-3) fell out of the top 25 in the most recent ITA women's team rankings as it currently sits outside the bubble while still receiving votes.

Both programs met in non-team scoring action back in January at the Michigan Invitational, where Georgia secured wins in two of three doubles matches.

The Bulldogs will aim to extend their season winning streak to three matches in what will be their last non-conference match of the regular season with SEC play on the horizon.

Georgia leads the all-time series record against Georgia Tech 29-6, where it has won the last five meetings and 11 of the last 13 dating back to 2010.

Match Notes

  • Georgia has seven Bulldogs listed in the latest ITA rankings. In singles, Dasha Vidmanova led the way at No. 38 followed by Alexandra Vecic (No. 48), Mell Reasco (No. 66), Mai Nirundorn (No. 111) and Anastasiia Lopata (No. 114). In doubles, the Bulldogs had two pairings in the mix led by Mert/Vidmanova at No. 31 and by Nirundorn/Grant at No. 32.
  • Guillermina Grant and Aysegul Mert represented Georgia well in the latest SEC weekly honors, earning Co-Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week awards respectively.
  • Guillermina Grant won all six of her matches over three days at the ITA Indoor Championships. The junior won three singles matches and three doubles matches, all without dropping a single set through all six matches.
  • No. 114 Anastasiia Lopata has won five of her last six singles matches, winning all three of her singles matches at the ITA Indoor Championships while finishing two in straight sets and picking up the clincher against Texas A&M.
  • No. 111 Mai Nirundorn has won nine of her last 12 doubles matches since flipping into 2024.
  • No. 38 Dasha Vidmanova has faced ranked-opponents in each of her last five singles matches, winning two of three finished matches while leading in the remaining two unfinished competitions.
