- The Bulldogs topped Texas Southern, 92-64, on Sunday in record-setting fashion. Georgia out-rebounded the Tigers, 53-23, a school-record +30 margin on the glass.
- Georgia is riding a 20-game non-conference winning streak at Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs are perfect in home non-SEC games under Mike White – 8-0 in 2022-23, 10-0 in 2023-24 and 2-0 in 2024-25.
- The Bulldogs defeated Tennessee Tech, 83-78, last Monday behind 26 points from Asa Newell. That effort tied Dominique Wilkins for the most points ever by a UGA freshman in their collegiate debut.
- Both Georgia's freshman and transfer recruiting classes were ranked among the top 10 nationally. The transfers were dubbed No. 8 by On3.com, while the freshmen were rated No. 10 by 247Sports.com and Rivals.com.
The Opening Tip
The Georgia Bulldogs return to action for their second outing in three days on Tuesday evening when they host the North Florida Osprey's at Stegeman Coliseum at 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday's game is UGA's second matchup of the Peach State Classic, a multi-team event being co-hosted by Georgia and Georgia Tech. On Sunday, Georgia defeated Texas Southern, 92-64, in Athens, while UNF bested GT, 105-93, in Atlanta. In addition to tonight's game at Stegeman, the Yellow Jackets will play TSU in Atlanta this evening.
No less than five Bulldogs are averaging double digits through the season's first two games. Graduate Dakota Leffew and freshman Asa Newell lead the way, contributing 20.5 ppg and 20.0 ppg, respectively, followed by sophomore Silas Demary Jr. at 11.5 ppg, sophomore Blue Cain at 10.5 ppg and graduate Tyrin Lawrence at 10.0 ppg.
Junior RJ Godfrey, who recorded his first career double-double in the season opener against Tennessee Tech, leads Georgia on the boards at 8.5 rpg.
SERIES HISTORY WITH UNF
Georgia won the only previous meeting with North Florida, a 78-60 decision last season on Dec. 22 – 11 months and 10 days ago.
Jabri Abdur-Rahim scored a game-high 18 points to lead Georgia, while Noah Thomasson added 10 points and Silas Demary Jr. dished out six assists with no turnovers for the Bulldogs. A complete box score from that contest can be found to the right.
The Bulldogs rallied after a slow start. The Ospreys scored the game's first eight points and were up 18-10 with 10:47 left in the opening period before Georgia used a 35-9 run to grab a 45-29 lead at the intermission.
SCOUTING THE OSPREYS
North Florida is one of the nation's surprise teams one week into the season.
Last Monday, the Ospreys earned their first win ever over an SEC foe with a 74-71 victory at South Carolina. After a 90-66 win over Charleston Southern last Thursday, they topped Georgia Tech, 105-93, on Sunday.
Like Georgia, North Florida features a quintet of players averaging double digits in the scoring column. Jasai Miles paces the Ospreys at 16.7 ppg. In addition, Josh Harris adds 16.3 ppg, Liam Murphy chips in 14.3 ppg, Jaylen Smith contributes 14.0 ppg and Nate Lliteras puts up 13.3 ppg.
LAST TIME OUT
Dakota Leffew's 23-point outburst off the bench led five Bulldogs in double digits in Georgia's 92-64 win over Texas Southern at Stegeman Coliseum last Sunday.
Following Leffew, Silas Demary Jr. scored 17 points, Asa Newell added 14, Tyrin Lawrence posted 13 and Blue Cain notched his first career double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Newell and Somto Cyril both blocked four shots, leading Georgia to 12 swats on the afternoon.
The 28-point win represented the largest margin of victory during Mike White's three seasons at Georgia, and the Bulldogs' +30 rebounding margin (53-23) broke the previous school record.
"Today, I thought we got back to just focusing on smaller details, especially on the glass and on the defensive end – took more pride in defending," White said. "I just thought simply we played harder, we responded better to some adversities throughout the game, sent in shots early and we just played better."
BULLDOGS' HOME NON-CONFERENCE WINNING STREAK REACHES 20
Georgia's victory over Texas Southern extended the Bulldogs' non-conference winning streak at Stegeman Coliseum to 20 games.
Georgia is perfect against non-conference opposition at home under Mike White, previously compiling an 8-0 record in 2022-23 and a 10-0 mark in 2023-24.
The Bulldogs' last loss at Stegeman to a non-conference foe was a 77-60 setback to Gardner- Webb on Dec. 29, 2022.
