QUICK KICKS
Big Time Bulldog Battle
Georgia, now ranked 29th in the NCAA RPI rankings, faces its fourth top-10 opponent of the season as it welcomes No. 4 Mississippi State to Athens for a critical SEC matchup. Georgia enters on a four-match unbeaten streak, while Mississippi State has won seven straight since losing to No. 3 Wake Forest on Aug. 25 in Winston-Salem. Although Georgia leads the overall series, 16-4-2, the last two matchups have both resulted in hard-fought draws.

Thursday's contest is the 19th ranked opponent of the Keidane McAlpine era, with Georgia holding a 4-8-6 mark in such meetings. Mississippi State is the highest-ranked opponent to play at Turner since No. 5 Alabama prevailed, 2-0, in 2022. Georgia is looking for its first win over a top-5 opponent since beating No. 5 LSU in 2021, and the first at home since besting No. 4 Texas A&M on Sept. 27, 2015. During its program history, Georgia is 3-18-1 against top-5 opponents.

Brown's Best
Junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown has provided consistent excellence for Georgia throughout the season, earning the No. 29 spot in Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Player rankings. Brown was the third-highest ranked goalkeeper in the country and highest-ranked in the SEC. The Las Vegas native leads the SEC in saves (79) and saves per game (6.08), while ranking 10th nationally in saves as she matched last season's total in 13 matches.

Sooner Rather Than Later
In its first-ever meeting, Georgia moved into a tie for fifth in the SEC with a 2-0 victory at Oklahoma last Friday. Amber Nguyen opened the scoring with a goal in the 32nd minute, taking an assist from Hannah White and scoring from the top of the 18 for her second-straight match with a goal. In the 57th minute, Tori Penn tallied her third score of the season as she deposited a Devon Winters assist in the bottom right corner of the net. With the win, Georgia is now 11-2-5 against SEC opponents in road and neutral matches under Keidane McAlpine.

Dawg Bites
  • Georgia head coach Keidane McAlpine and Mississippi State head coach James Armstrong share a coaching lineage, with both serving as assistants at Auburn: McAlpine from 2006-11 and Armstrong from 2013-18. Georgia director of recruiting Sammy Towne also worked with Armstrong as director of operations for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
  • Mississippi State redshirt sophomore forward Sutton Webb began her collegiate career at Georgia in the 2022 season.
  • Assistant coach Rade Tanaskovic returned to the Georgia coaching staff for the Kentucky match after serving on the United States staff for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia. Tanaskovic helped the U.S. earn third place in the tournament, allowing only seven goals with two shutouts.
  • Georgia has displayed a great ability to play with the lead this season, holding a 6-0-1 record when scoring first in a match.
  • Thursday's match is the annual Live Pink match with Georgia wearing special pink uniforms and fans receiving a pink tied-dye T-shirt sponsored by Piedmont.
