ATHENS, Ga. – Following last Saturday's sweep at Auburn, three members of the University of Georgia swimming and diving program earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office in Birmingham.
Senior Jake Magahey was named Men's Co-Swimmer of the Week, while freshmen Tomas Koski and Helena Jones were each named Freshman of the Week for their performances in the Auburn meet. For Magahey, this is his third career Swimmer of the Week honor, and the first conference accolade for Koski and Jones.
Magahey helped lead No. 7 Georgia to a dominant 186-114 victory against No. 10 Auburn, earning three individual wins in the process. In the 500-yard freestyle, the Dacula native bested the field by nearly five seconds, following up a decisive result in the 1,000y freestyle in which he won by nearly three seconds. He also added a win in the 200y butterfly, posting a B-cut time of 1:45.73, along with swimming the third leg of the Bulldogs' second-place 400y freestyle relay.
Koski posted a pair of top-two individual finishes in the meet. In the 200y freestyle, the Alpharetta native earned his fourth dual win of the season in the event, topping the field with a B-cut time of 1:35.14. He then made his collegiate debut in the 500y freestyle with a second-place time of 4:28.06 before closing the meet with the fastest leg of the same 400y free relay team as Magahey.
Jones helped No. 12 Georgia earn a 157.5-142.5 victory at No. 14 Auburn with a pair of individual wins and two strong relay performances. In the 50y freestyle, the Portland, Oregon native prevailed with a time of 22.70, then turned around and won the 100y freestyle with a B-cut time of 49.17. She then improved upon her earlier time with a 48.87 leadoff split in the 400y freestyle relay, helping the Bulldogs secure the dual victory. She also posted the fastest freestyle split of all competitors in the 200y medley relay with a time of 21.77.
Georgia returns home for three meets over the next four Saturdays at Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Bulldogs will take on No. 16/23 Florida State, along with the Vanderbilt women's team, next Saturday at 11 a.m. Admission is free for all spectators and live coverage will be available on SEC Network+.
