Georgia to Host Red and Black Scrimmage

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia equestrian team will host the Annual Red and Black Scrimmage on Friday at the UGA Equestrian Complex at 3 p.m. in preparation for the 2023-24 season.
The Bulldogs finished last season with a 6-9 record and third at the SEC Championship. Sophia Pilla received All-SEC honors in Flat and was named to the NCEA First Team All-America. Junior Jillian Stopperich was given All-SEC honors in Horsemanship. Three riders were named to the SEC All-Freshman team last season. Bulldogs brought in a stout recruiting class with numerous Top 10 finishes, including Tessa Downey who took home a third-place finish with Team USA at the FEI Jumping Youth Nations Cup Final.
Georgia opened its season with a win over Baylor, 10-8. This marked the first home win over the Bears since 2012. Ranked sixth in the nation, Georgia upset No. 3 Texas A&M, 10-8 at home. The Bulldogs swept Horsemanship to give Georgia the lead as a pair of riders earned MOPs throughout the meet.
The Bulldogs launched into the record books with six riders sneaking into top-10 lists. Pilla scored 99 in flat against South Carolina, only the third rider in program history to record that score, the first since 2019. Jordan Toering and Nora Andrews carved places for themselves in the record books with fourth-best 97s against Lynchburg and Texas A&M, respectively. Catalina Peralta, Toering and Emma Reichow scored 92 in fences throughout the season, marking fifth-best finishes in Georgia equestrian history.
Georgia will begin its 2023-24 season when they host UT Martin at the UGA Equestrian Complex on Sept. 30 at 12 p.m.
