Bulldogs Shine in Second Day at Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The University of Georgia women's tennis team concluded the second day of the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic with two doubles titles and eight singles wins on Saturday.
The Bulldogs opened the day with doubles action including two titles in separate flight brackets. The first doubles title saw Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco knock off Alina Tsyurpalevych and Leigh Van Zyl (Clemson) 8-5. After advancing to the final match yesterday, the pairing of Mai Nirundorn and Guillermina Grant picked up the second doubles title of the day by default over Margaux Maquet and Petra Sedlackove (Alabama). An extra match was added to the schedule, where Nirundorn and Grant defeated Alana Wolfberg and Leyla Britez-Risso (Tennessee) 8-4.Â
Georgia later wrapped up the doubles session as Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova fell to Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser (Alabama) 8-4, before the duo of Alexandra Vecic and Gracie Epps fell to Maeve Thornton and Grace Thomas (Furman) 8-6.Â
The Bulldogs dominated in singles play with eight victories on the day, all to advance to the final match of each respective flight bracket. Vecic shined as she cruised past Ellie Coleman (Duke) 6-0, 6-1 followed by Vidmanova knocking off Gina Pittman (NC State) 6-3, 6-1. Reasco battled in another competitive match and prevailed to defeat Maddy Zampardo (NC State) 6-2, 4-6, 7(7)-6(5) before Grant topped Ether Adeshina (Tennessee) 6-2, 6-1. Nirundorn was a force on the day as she clean swept Marcella Cruz (Wake Forest) 6-0, 6-0 while Mert defeated Kate Sharabura (Georgia Tech) 6-3, 6-3. Lopata knocked off Jess Dawson (Furman) 6-1, 6-0 before Epps rounded out the last singles win of the day over Teah Chavez (Ohio State) 6-3, 7-5. Tatum Buffington competed in pool play but fell to Chloe Henderson (NC State) 6-2, 6-2.
Georgia will return for the final day of the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic on Sunday where eight Bulldogs will compete for singles titles starting at 9 a.m. ET.
