Bulldogs Fall to Gamecocks in SEC Tournament Quarterfinals, 2-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 13th-ranked Georgia softball team fell to South Carolina in an extra-inning affair, 2-1, in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals Thursday at Bogle Park.
Madison Kerpics pitched five innings in her start, suffering a no decision. Kerpics allowed one run on two hits, striking out six and walking only one batter. Shelby Walters (17-5) suffered the loss in relief, allowing one run on three hits in three innings out of the pen. Walters struck out three batters.
Senior Sara Mosley was responsible for two of Georgia's five hits including a double. Sydney Chambley's third inning home run was the Dogs' lone run.
Chambley's eighth home run of the season put Georgia on the board in the bottom of the third, 1-0.
South Carolina's Riley Blampied quickly knotted the contest in the top of the fourth with a solo home run of her own, 1-1.
The 1-1 draw held as the game was sent to extra innings.
With a runner on second in the top of the eighth, Jaydyn Goodwin's throw home from left threw the runner out at the plate to keep the game tied. A batter later, South Carolina broke through with an RBI single to right, going ahead 2-1.
The Bulldogs put two on in the bottom of the eighth, but didn't score, falling in eight innings 2-1.
Georgia will await the NCAA Tournament selection show airing Sunday, May 14 at 7 p.m., ET, live on ESPN 2.
