
Bulldogs Open SEC Championship in 10th

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — The University of Georgia men's golf team opened the 2023 Southeastern Conference Championship with an even-par 280 on Wednesday at the Sea Island Golf Club - Seaside Course.
The 14-team field at the SEC Championship features eight teams that are ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll. No. 15 Texas A&M holds the 18-hole team lead after firing an opening round of 11-under-par 269. 18th-ranked Alabama is second at 10-under-par 270, and No. 8 Auburn is third at 9-under-par 271. The Bulldogs currently sit in 10th place at even-par. Alabama's Thomas Ponder and Tennessee's Caleb Surratt hold the 18-hole individual lead after shooting rounds of 6-under-par 64.
The Bulldogs were paced by senior Connor Creasy and sophomore Buck Brumlow who carded rounds of 1-under-par 69. The pair are currently tied for 23rd. Senior Ben van Wyk and junior Caleb Manuel each turned in rounds of 1-over-par 71 (T39), while sophomore Maxwell Ford rounded out the Bulldogs with an opening round 5-over-par 75 (T62).
Georgia will return to the course Thursday, April 20 for round two of the SEC Championship. The Bulldogs will begin play off of hole 10 at 8:20 a.m. and will be paired with LSU and Missouri. You can follow along at Golfstat.com.
