Bulldogs Finish Ninth at SECs

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — The University of Georgia men's golf team carded an even-par 280 during the final round of stroke play at the 2023 Southeastern Conference Championship on Friday at the Sea Island Golf Club - Seaside Course.
The 14-team field at the SEC Championship featured eight teams that are ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll. No. 14 Tennessee finished the stroke play portion first with a 54-hole total of 14-under-par 826, while No. 15 Texas A&M finished second at 13-under-par 827 and ninth-ranked Florida finished third at 9-under-par 831. The Bulldogs finished ninth at 2-over-par 842, just one stroke shy of advancing to the match play portion of the event. Tennessee's Caleb Surratt claimed the 2023 SEC Championship individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 14-under-par 196 (64-68-64).
The Bulldogs were paced by senior Ben van Wyk who carded a round of 3-under-par 67, highlighted by a hole in one on the par 3 third. He was followed by sophomore Maxwell Ford who fired a 1-under-par 69, while sophomore Buck Brumlow tallied a round of 1-over-par 71. Senior Connor Creasy and junior Caleb Manuel rounded out the Bulldogs with rounds of 3-over-par 73.
Creasy led Georgia with a 54-hole score of even-par 210 (69-68-73) to finish tied for 19th. Brumlow and van Wyk finished tied for 34th at 2-over-par for the tournament, while Ford and Manuel finished tied for 47th at 5-over-par 215.
The Bulldogs now will await their assignment for an NCAA Regional. The regionals will take place May 15-17 in Auburn, Alabama; Bath, Michigan; Las Vegas, Nevada; Morgan Hills, California; Norman, Oklahoma; and Salem, South Carolina. The top five teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 26-31.
