ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia gymnastics team will close out regular season competition and honor its seniors against Michigan on Friday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia. Â

This is the second of three straight weeks that the GymDogs will compete at the Gas South Arena. Georgia hosted its last two home meets of the season in Duluth due to repairs requiring immediate attention in Stegeman Coliseum.  Then next week the GymDogs will be back in Duluth for the SEC Championship at the Gas South Arena. Â

Senior Day celebrations will take place before the meet against Michigan begins.  Georgia will honor Josie Angeny, Amanda Cashman, Haley de Jong, Vanessa Deniz, Sandra Elsadek, Loulie Hattaway, and Soraya Hawthorne.Â

GYMDOGS IN THE RANKINGSÂ
Freshman Naya Howard she ranks 35rd, 11th in the SEC and the second best all-around freshman in the conference. Â

Senior Soraya Hawthorne ranks 8th on floor with an NQS of 9.945.Â
MY GOD, A FRESHMANÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Freshman Naya Howard is the first GymDog freshman to compete all-around since 2017. Her total of 39.475 against Kentucky is the best all-around score from a GymDog since the 2019 Regional Finals, which she notched again against Alabama.Â

HAWTHORNE CONTINUES THE MOONWALK
Senior Soraya Hawthorne assumed the responsibility of taking over the Georgia moonwalk tradition on beam as a sophomore and debuted the move at LSU in 2021. She is the seventh GymDog to perform the moonwalk on the balance beam, following Nikki Childs, Cassidy McComb, Lindsey Cheek, Mary Beth Box, Morgan Reynolds, and Sabrina Vega.

She has also added the move to her floor routine, which is performed to Michael Jackson.Â
