Bulldogs Post Top-10 Times on First Day of Last Chance

ATHENS, Ga. – With four top-10 times in program history, the University of Georgia men's and women's swimming and diving teams posted a strong opening day at the 2023 Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
 
In time trials competition, junior Jake Magahey posted a B-cut of 3:41.07 in the 400 IM, earning the seventh-fastest time in school history in his first-ever collegiate swim in the event. Senior Zach Hils also made his collegiate debut in the event with a B-cut time of 3:44.46. Later in the afternoon, graduate Andrew Abruzzo moved into the 200 butterfly all-time top 10 with a personal-best B-cut of 1:41.82, ranking ninth in school history.
 
During the morning session, sophomore Mitchell Norton touched first in the 200 backstroke with a PB of 1:40.62, improving to seventh all-time. Freshman Sam Powe also turned in a PB of 1:41.06, remaining eighth all-time.
 
In the women's 200 freestyle, junior Sloane Reinstein clinched a spot in the NCAA Championships with a personal-best B-cut of 1:44.26, dropping nearly two seconds from her seed time and posting her fourth-consecutive PB in the event. Senior Zoie Hartman (1:46.02) and Duné Coetzee (1:46.67) also picked up B-cuts with season-best times. In the men's 200 free, fifth-year senior Ananda Lim set a PB of 1:34.82.
 
Sophomore Mia Abruzzo improved her standing in the 400 IM with a season-best B-cut of 4:13.34, while freshman Olivia Della Torre picked up her third B-cut with a time of 1:01.79 in the 100 breaststroke. In prelims, junior Julianna Stephens notched two PBs in the 50 freestyle, first with a relay leadoff of 22.88, followed by a 22.86 in the main event. For the day, the Bulldogs combined for 32 personal-best times, including a pair for senior Jillian Barczyk in the 50 freestyle and 200 backstroke, giving eight total in the last two weeks.
 
The Bulldog Invitational continues tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 4 p.m. The meet will not be streamed, but live results will be available on GeorgiaDogs.com and to paid subscribers on the MeetMobile app.
