Recapping Last Week's Action
Georgia opened the 2023 season going 5-0 in the Black & Gold Classic in Orlando, Florida. The season began with a 4-2 victory over #18 UCF. The bats came alive after that, putting up 11, 12, 13, and 14 runs in each of Georgia's next four games. On the weekend, Georgia outscored opponents 54-14 and slugged 10 home runs. Junior Jayda Kearney highlighted the offense, slugging four home runs and driving in 10 runs on the weekend.Â

A Look at What's Ahead
The Bulldogs will take a short trip to Clemson, South Carolina Tuesday, Feb. 21 for a midweek showdown with seventh-ranked Clemson. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Tigers is set for 4 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. It's back home after that to host the 20th Annual Georgia Classic. Hofstra, Cal Baptist, and Lipscomb will travel to Athens for the nine-game tournament.Â

Kearney, Offense Explode on Opening Weekend
Junior Jayda Kearney slugged 1.385 with four home runs on opening weekend to lead a potent Georgia offense. The Bulldogs outscored opponents 54-14 to begin the season, hitting .433. No other team slugged higher on opening weekend as the Dogs slugged .806 with 10 home runs, 12 doubles, and four triples. Six different hitters hit a home run. Georgia's 27 walks on the weekend contributed to a .542 on base clip, the third best in the country.Â

Walters Sharp in Georgia Debut
Graduate pitcher Shelby Walters was sharp in her first games as a Georgia Bulldog. Walters worked 12.0 innings in four appearances in the circle. She struck out 13 opposing hitters while walking none. Walters was the winner in three of Georgia's five wins in Orlando.Â

Dogs Returning Big Numbers
Georgia broke the program record of home runs in 2022, blasting 107 on the season. The 2023 team returns 79 (74%) of its home run production from last year. Of its run production from 2022, the offense returns 74 percent of its RBI (281 of 384).

Mosley, Kearney Named to USA Softball Player of the Year Watch List
USA Softball unveiled the Top 50 Watch List for the 2023 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year on Jan. 25. Senior Sara Mosley and junior Jayda Kearney were recognized on the list. The Top 25 Finalists will be announced April 19.Â

Trio of Bulldogs Earn Preseason All-SEC Honors
Three Georgia softball student-athletes earned recognition on the 2023 Preseason All-SEC Team. Seniors Sara Mosley and Sydney Kuma along with junior Jayda Kearney were voted to the Preseason All-Conference Team by the league's head coaches. The Bulldogs joined Florida, LSU, and Tennessee as the only teams to put three players on the 21-member Preseason All-SEC Team.Â
