Bulldogs Open Puerto Rico Classic in Second

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The University of Georgia men's golf team carded a 9-under-par 279 on Sunday to rest in second place in the team standings following the opening round of the Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club. 
 
The 13-team field at the Southwestern Invitational features two teams that are ranked in the top-25 of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll. East Tennessee State holds the 18-hole team lead after firing a 16-under-par 272. The Bulldogs are second at 9-under-par 279, while Wisconsin is third at 6-under-par 282. Mats Ege of ETSU holds the 18-hole individual lead after shooting an 8-under-par 64.
 
Senior Connor Creasy paced the Bulldogs with a 4-under-par 68, good for fourth. The senior carded five birdies on the day, including three of his final five holes.
 
Sophomore Buck Brumlow and junior Caleb Manuel each turned in rounds of 2-under-par 70 (10th), while sophomore Maxwell Ford and freshman Carter Loflin both fired rounds of 1-under-par 71 (19th). Playing as an individual, senior Ben van Wyk also carded a round of 1-under-par 71 (19th).
 
The Bulldogs will return to the course Monday, Feb. 13 for round two of the Puerto Rico Classic. You can follow along at Golfstat.com.
