Craig Leads Bulldogs In North & South Am

ATHENS, Ga. — Caroline Craig produced the strongest performance among a trio of Georgia Bulldogs competing in the 120th North & South Women's Amateur in Pinehurst, N.C., last week.
The tournament featured 36 holes of stroke play before the field was cut to 32 golfers for a match play bracket. Many of the nation's top collegiate players were featured in the field of 117 golfers competing at the Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 4 courses.
Craig tied for 25th in match play after carding rounds of 71 and 74 and entered match play as the No. 31 seed. She knocked off second-seeded Emma Schimpf in decisive fashion, 5-and-4, in her opening match. Craig grabbed the lead on the fourth hole and never trailed. She won the final four holes of the front nine and was 4-up at the turn. Another victory at No. 11 pushed the margin to 5-up, and Craig closed out the match at No. 14.
Bae and Hung also carded solid showings but failed to reach match play. Bae posted rounds of 72 and 75 to finish tied for 37th at 147, one shot off the cut to advance. Hung bounced back from an opening 79 to fire a 70 in the second round and tie for 61st.
Seven of the Bulldogs' eight returning letterwinners for the 2022-23 season will be in action this week. Bae will represent Georgia in the Southeastern Challenge, a competition featuring teams from Georgia, Alabama and Florida. LoraLie Cowart will compete in the Sea Island Women's Amateur. Céleste Dao will be in action at the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship. Caterina Don and Candice Mahé will represent Italy and France, respectively, in the World University Golf Championship. Isabella Holpfer will play in the European Ladies Amateur. Hung is in the field of the Women's Western Amateur.
