
Georgia GymDogs Earn Best Home Score at Stegeman Coliseum

ATHENS, Ga. — Despite season-best scores on bars and floor, the University of Georgia gymnastics team fell to the Missouri Tigers, 197.225-196.600 at home in Stegeman Coliseum.
Tonight's score marks the best home total of the season for the GymDogs. Senior Megan Roberts won the event title on bars after matching her season-high score with a 9.900. Junior Soraya Hawthorne's 9.975 on floor earned her the honors for the second time this season.
Additionally, Roberts and Haley de Jong secured career-high scores for their floor routines, contributing to the season-best 49.625. Hawthorne (vault) and Victoria Nguyen (bars) also tied their season-high scores.
"Bars and floor really shined tonight," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "We had some really great routines and it's always fun to compete in Stegeman Coliseum. What I have seen is efficiency that has improved. They know their assignments, they get their skills done, they might have to do a little bit more here and there, but the efficiency is what I've seen in this team and even today, in warmups and touch. Seeing our efficiency in skill has been huge. That's going to help in the long run heading into postseason."
The GymDogs began tonight's competition on vault, where the team posted a collective score of 49.100. Hawthorne tied her season-high score of 9.850, while Roberts also scored a 9.850 on the event. Rachel Baumann followed with a 9.825 and Abbey Ward posted a 9.800. Amanda Cashman finished with a 9.775 and Mikayla Magee scored a 9.725.
During tonight's meet, the GymDogs soared to a new season-high score on bars with a total score of 49.200. Roberts captured the event title with a 9.900, tying her season-best score. Katie Finnegan gave a strong showing with a 9.875 while Victoria Nguyen tied her season-high with a solid 9.850. Ward rounded out the event with a 9.800 and Haley de Jong finished with a 9.775.
On beam, both Emily Schild and Nguyen received a 9.800 for their routines. Hawthorne posted a 9.775 while Magee finished with a 9.750. The team finished with a combined score of 48.675.
Georgia wrapped up competition on floor, where the team posted an overall score of 49.625, their best of the season. Hawthorne led the pack with a dazzling 9.975 performance, winning the event tile. Roberts and de Jong stuck the landing for career-highs of 9.950 and 9.900, respectively. Baumann's performance earned her a 9.950, while Alyssa Perez-Lugones finished with a 9.850 and Magee followed with a 9.750.
Up next, the GymDogs head to Elevate the Stage in Huntsville, Alabama, where they will take on Auburn, Arkansas and Alabama on Sunday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m.. The GymDogs will be back in Athens on Saturday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m. for their home finale against North Carolina.
