Bulldogs Close Out Last Chance with Strong Outing

ATHENS, Ga. – In its final meet before NCAA Championships selections, the University of Georgia swimming and diving team wrapped up its home slate in impressive fashion Sunday at the Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
 
Sophomore Wesley Ng turned in another strong performance as he bolstered his NCAA chances, improving upon his Saturday PR in the 100 backstroke with a B-cut of 45.73, the fourth-fastest mark in program history. Ng also broke into the program top-10 in the 100 butterfly with a B-cut of 46.40, ranking 10th all-time.
 
In other top-10 swims, junior Zach Hils concluded his solid weekend with a B-cut of 1:42.02 in the 200 backstroke, the 10th-fastest time in program history. In the 100 freestyle, freshman Reese Branzell swam a B-cut of 42.81, placing him ninth on the all-time list. Branzell was one of six Bulldogs who posted a new PR in the men's 100 freestyle final.
 
After earning a B-cut in the 500 freestyle on Saturday, freshman Rachel Stege notched another in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:12.20, placing her in contention for an NCAA berth. In the men's mile, sophomore Tommy-Lee Camblong dropped a season-best time of 15:00.22.
 
In other swims, sophomore Zach Franklin picked up his second B-cut of the meet with a PR of 47.69 in the 100 backstroke. In the women's 100 backstroke, junior Millie Sansome and freshman Eboni McCarty each posted B-cuts. Senior Portia Brown also earned a B-cut in the 400 IM with a time of 4:14.20.
 
Georgia now turns its attention to the NCAA Championship season, beginning with the announcement of women's qualifiers this week. The Bulldog divers will compete first in Atlanta with the Zone B Championships, running Monday, March 7 through Wednesday, March 9 at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center, followed by the women's and men's championships in the subsequent weeks.
