Georgia Sticks a Road Victory at Arkansas with a Season High

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- The University of Georgia gymnastics team earned its season-best score and first SEC win of the season with a 196.975 over Arkansas's 196.100 on Friday night at Barnhill Arena.
 
GymDogs claimed event titles on each event.  Katie Finnegan was the sole winner on bars with a 9.875.  Megan Roberts, Mikayla Magee, and Rachel Baumann earned a share of the title on vault, beam, and floor, respectively. 
 
"They had a confidence that I had never seen before right from the start, and that confidence definitely translated to their performances," head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "I am very proud of how they focused in on the little details and improved on the specifics that they've been working on with their individual routines.  I am also very pleased with our routines on bars and beam particularly. They really showed poise on the road and we are excited to build on that momentum at home next week."
 
The GymDogs started competition on bars with a season-high score of 49.150.  Katie Finnegan led the squad with a 9.875 and Victoria Nguyen followed with her best of the year- a 9.850, from the anchor position. Megan Roberts and Haley de Jong both contributed a 9.825.  
 
Georgia continued with strong vaults, posting a 49.250 and taking the lead after the second rotation. Roberts finished the event for Georgia, leading the team, with a 9.900. Rachel Baumann followed with a 9.875.  Mikayla Magee and Abbey Ward each scored a 9.850.  
 
The GymDogs continued the momentum on floor, collectively scoring a 49.250.  Rachel Baumann earned the highest score for Georgia with 9.925. In the anchor position, Soraya Hawthorne received a 9.900.  Mikayla Magee received a 9.825 for her routine.  
 
Georgia finished with a great showing on beam, scoring a 49.325 for the event and the best of the night. Magee led off with a 9.900 and Soraya Hawthorne followed with a 9.875- both matching their career-best scores. De Jong also contributed a 9.875.  Baumann earned a 9.850 and both Emily Schild and Nguyen scored a 9.825.  
 
The GymDogs are back in action next week against Missouri in Stegeman Coliseum.  The meet is scheduled for Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m.
