Georgia Teams Open Third In Fall Invite

ATHENS — The Georgia swimming and diving teams opened competition in the UGA Fall Invitational on Thursday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

After the first day, the Georgia women stand third with 265 points. Auburn took the team lead with 327 points followed by Florida with 294.

The Georgia men finished in third place with 290 points. Florida took the lead with 339.5 points followed by Auburn with 322. 

Eboni McCarty etched her name in the Georgia history book as she won the women's 50-yard freestyle in 21.89, the eighth-fastest time in school history. McCarty topped her own previous best of 21.91 set during Thursday's prelims.

Zoie Hartman claimed the women's 200-yard individual medley with 1:54.26. Callie Dickinson placed fifth in 1:58.06, Olivia Della Torre won the B final for ninth in 1:58.63 and Millie Sansome went 2:00.42 for 11th.

The women's 400-yard medley of Marie Schobel, Hartman, Dickinson and McCarty touched first in 3:31.31. Georgia got additional points for seventh and 11th.

The women's 200-yard freestyle relay of Julianna Stephens, Emma Norton, Hartman and McCarty came in third with a time of 1:29.30. Georgia snared additional points with a ninth-place effort.

Abby McCulloh led Georgia's charge in the women's 500-yard freestyle as she took fifth in 4:41.75. Sloane Reinstein (4:43.13) and Jillian Barczyk (4:45.62) followed in sixth and seventh, respectively. Rache Stege won the B final in 4:42.65, while Duné Coetzee placed 11th in 4:43.48, Heidi Stalkfleet took 13th in 4:44.85 and Shea Furse was 15th in 4:46.09.

In women's 1-meter diving, Meghan Wenzel was 12th with 292.80 points, followed by Hannah Stumph in 16th with 281.85 points.

Jake Magahey won the men's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:09.83. Tommy-Lee Camblong took sixth in 4:17.97 and Andrew Abruzzo touched in 4:21.70 for eighth. Ian Grum and Sam Powe tied for 14th in 4:21.35 and Bradley Dunham was 16th in 4:24.29.

Zach Hils finished first in the men's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:43.03.

Georgia went 1-2 in men's diving with Nolan Lewis rolling up 290.10 points and Kevin Li posting 282.70. Rhett Hopkins placed sixth with 255.85.

The men's 400-yard medley relay team of Grum, Kris Pitshugin, Wesley Ng and Hils came in third with a time of 3:07.41. Three other Georgia relay teams added 50 additional points to the team total.

Dillon Downing placed fourth in the men's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.25. Ng came in 14th in 20.06.

Georgia's top men's 200-yard freestyle relay consisted of Downing, Hils, Ng and Magahey as the quartet took fourth in 1:17.48. The Bulldogs also scored in eighth, 10th and 15th.

The UGA Fall Invitational will continue on Friday with prelims at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m. The meet will conclude on Saturday with the same schedule.
