A Look at What's Ahead
Georgia is set for another Saturday-Sunday-Monday series, this time at No. 10 Kentucky. The series kicks off Saturday at 4 p.m. in Lexington. Sunday and Monday's games will air on SEC Network, beginning at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. Georgia returns to Jack Turner Stadium next Wednesday for a home midweek against USC Upstate.
Avant One Hits Gators, Records 500th-Career Strikeout
Graduate pitcher Mary Wilson Avant pitched a complete-game one-hitter in the series opener against No. 5 Florida April 3 at Jack Turner Stadium. Avant fanned six Gators in her performance and earned her 12th victory. Two days later, her sixth strikeout of the game topped the 500 mark in her career. She becomes only the sixth Bulldog to reach that milestone.
Bordeau Has Solid Series Against Gators
Freshman catcher Payden Bordeau put together a solid series at the plate against No. 5 Florida. In the series opener, her first career home run was a two-run shot to tie the game. Georgia went on to topple the Gators 4-2. In the finale, a pair of singles was good enough for her first multi-hit game as a Bulldog. She concluded the series hitting .571 (4-for-7). Entering Wednesday's game at Kennesaw State, Bordeau is riding a six-game hitting streak.
Chambley for Three!
Freshman Sydney Chambley currently co-leads the nation with six triples (tied with Kentucky's Kayla Kowalik). The number already ties for fifth-most in a season at Georgia. The record is 12 set by Nicole Barber in 2002. Barder holds the top-three spots in the single-season category (12, 10, 8) and holds Georgia's career record of 35.
Bulldogs Dig the Long Ball
Georgia ranks 11th in the country with 1.63 home runs per game, hitting 49 home runs in 30 games. The Bulldogs tied a season-high five home runs against Missouri (3/20) including four in the first inning. The Bulldogs hit three-straight in the inning, the first time since 2018 against Florida. Georgia's .553 slugging percentage is 19th nationally.
Georgia in the Polls
The Bulldogs held steady at No. 20 in the NFCA Coaches Poll while rising one spot to 22 in the USA Softball Poll. Georgia rejoined D1 Softball's poll at No. 25 while dropping one spot to No. 20 in the Softball America poll.
Avant Rules the Circle
Graduate pitcher Mary Wilson Avant has cemented herself as the Bulldogs' ace this season. She ranks 11th in the nation with 12 victories in the circle and her 129 strikeouts ranks 18th. She's averaging 9.3 strikeouts per seven innings.
Georgia's Win Streak Ends
Georgia softball snapped a 16-game win steak after falling to Missouri in the SEC opener on March 19. The streak tied for sixth-longest (2008, 2013) in Georgia softball history and was the longest since the Bulldogs tied the record of 25 in 2018.
