Bulldogs Fall to Lady Vols Saturday, 9-3

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 21st-ranked University of Georgia softball team fell to No. 17 Tennessee Saturday evening 9-3 at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Freshman Sydney Chambley concluded the game 2-for-3 with an RBI. Fellow freshman Jayda Kearney knocked her third home run of the season to put the Bulldogs on the board in the second.
In the circle, freshman Britton Rogers (0-2) suffered the loss. Rogers worked two and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. She struck out three Lady Vols. Georgia used three pitchers. Senior Lauren Mathis pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings to close the game.
Kearney put the Bulldogs on the board with a solo home run in the top of the second, 1-0. It was her third home run of the season.
A wild pitch allowed Tennessee to knot the game in the home half of the inning, 1-1.
Georgia loaded the bases in the top of the third with one out. Sophomore Sara Mosley grounded into fielder's choice, plating freshman Ellie Armistead and putting the Bulldogs back in front, 2-1.
The Lady Vols plated three runs in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Ally Shipman and a two-run double off the bat of Madison Webber to go ahead 4-2.
A five spot in the fourth, including a grand slam by Ivy Davis, extended Tennessee's lead to 9-2 after four innings.
An RBI single to left off the bat of Chambley drove in junior Lacey Fincher in the top of the sixth, bringing the final tally to 9-3.
Georgia will look to salvage a game in Knoxville Sunday at 2 p.m. The game is set to air on ESPN 2.
