No. 17 Lady Vols Take Game One of Series, 3-1

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 21st-ranked Georgia softball team fell in game one of its series at No. 17 Tennessee Friday evening at Sheri Parker Lee Stadium, 3-1.
The Bulldogs and Lady Vols each recorded five hits apiece. Five different Bulldogs picked up a hit in the contest.
Graduate Mary Wilson Avant (15-6) suffered the loss in her complete game. She worked six innings, allowing three runs on five hits. She struck out six Lady Vol hitters.
Georgia (28-13, 6-10) opened the game with junior Savana Sikes and sophomore Sydney Kuma reaching on back-to-back singles. The Bulldogs jumped on the board on a passed ball, allowing Sikes to score from third, 1-0. The Bulldogs put two in scoring position but stranded them there in the opening frame.
A solo home run off the bat of Tennessee's Ashley Morgan tied the game at a run apiece in the second inning.
With two out and a runner on in the bottom of the fifth, Ally Shipman tripled to center, driving in the runner and putting the Lady Vols (34-7, 7-6) ahead 2-1. Morgan then doubled to left field to drive in Shipman and extend the lead to 3-1 after five innings.
After a quick sixth inning, the Bulldogs brought the tying run to the plate but couldn't keep the game alive, falling 3-1.
