Allen Qualifies for NCAA Championships on 1-meter

GREENSBORO, N.C. – With a total score of 673.55, senior Zach Allen qualified for the 2021 NCAA Men's Championships as the University of Georgia diving team concluded competition at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Tuesday afternoon at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
 
Allen finished seventh overall in the men's 1-meter springboard, posting a score of 673.55. Allen qualified for NCAAs last season on the 1-meter but was unable to compete due to the event's cancellation. He will be the first Georgia men's diver to compete at nationals since Charlie Clifton and Ian Forlini in 2017.
 
In the final session, Allen notched a score of 353.50, posting a mark over 57 points on each of his final five dives, including a 64.50 on the third dive. Earlier, in prelims, he finished ninth with a score of 320.05. North Carolina's Anton Down Jenkins took the overall title in the event.
 
In the women's platform, freshman Meghan Wenzel narrowly missed out on the final, finishing 19th with an overall score of 194.55. Wenzel opened up with three strong dives, including a 44.55 on her opening effort. North Carolina's Aranza Vazquez Montano prevailed in the final session.
