Allen and Wenzel Reach Finals at Zones

GREENSBORO, N.C. – With four divers in competition, the University of Georgia diving team opened the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Sunday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Senior Zach Allen finished 15th in the men's 3-meter springboard with an overall score of 664.15. Allen turned in a strong performance Sunday, posting a score over 50 in 11 of his 12 dives, highlighted by a score of 65.10 on the second dive of the final. In prelims, Allen notched a total score off 327.95, moving up from 20th after two dives to pass the 18-slot cutline. Anton Down Jenkins of North Carolina placed first with a mark of 848.75.
In the women's 1-meter springboard, freshman Meghan Wenzel finished 17th with an overall score of 513.90, closing the event with a score of 46.80 on her 12th dive of the day. Wenzel placed 14th in prelims with a score of 263.40, posting a 54.60 mark on her second dive. Miami's Mia Vallee took the overall title with a score of 618.60.
Elsewhere in prelims, junior Ellie Crump placed 24th with a score of 237.70, remaining in contention for the final through her last dive. Fellow junior Tally Brown finished 27th with a mark of 207.55.
The Zone B Championships continue tomorrow in Greensboro, with competition starting at 10:30 a.m. Wenzel and Crump will compete for Georgia in the women's 3-meter event. Live results will be available on DiveMeets.com.
