Four Georgia Divers to Compete at NCAA Zones

March 05, 2021 | Swimming & Diving

ATHENS, Ga. – Four members of the University of Georgia diving team will be in action this weekend at the 2021 NCAA Division I Zone B Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The meet opens Sunday, March 7 and runs through Tuesday, March 9, with each day of competition starting at 10:30 a.m. Zones is the first of three-consecutive NCAA events in Greensboro, followed by the Women's and Men's Championships in the subsequent two weeks.

In the men's competition, senior Zach Allen will represent Georgia in both springboard events as he returns to Zones for the third time in his career. Allen qualified for last season's NCAA Championships with a third-place finish on the 1-meter, earning a CSCAA All-America citation in the process. This season, Allen finished sixth in the event at the SEC Championships and also scored on the 3-meter and platform. He also earned six wins on the 1-meter and one on the 3-meter this season, along with receiving SEC Men's Diver of the Week honors on Oct. 27.

For the Georgia women, freshman Meghan Wenzel will compete in all three events after scoring on the 1-meter and platform at SECs. Wenzel turned in a terrific rookie campaign for the Bulldogs, earning wins at the UGA Diving Invitational and in dual action against Auburn. Junior Ellie Crump makes her third-straight appearance at Zones, competing in both springboard events. Crump scored at SECs on the 1-meter and finished first in the event at the UGA Diving Invite. Finally, junior Tally Brown will compete on the 1-meter after finishing 16th at SECs. Brown previously competed on the springboards for Missouri at the Zone D meet in 2019.

At Zones, the top five female and top four male divers from each event will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. The number of additional divers advancing to NCAAs differs by each event and gender. For the women, the top seven on the springboards will move on, while eight will advance on the platform. In the men's meet, 10 divers will qualify on the 1-meter, while the top eight will proceed on the 3-meter and platform.

There will be no live streaming of the Zone B Championships, but live results will be available on DiveMeets.com.
