Bulldogs Even Series with Rebels, 3-1
March 27, 2021 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – A three-run fourth inning lifted the 17th-ranked Georgia softball team past Ole Miss Saturday, 3-1. The win evens the series in Oxford.
Freshman Sydney Chambley recorded two hits in the game including the go-ahead two-run triple in the fourth. Georgia scattered six total hits.
Freshman Madison Kerpics pitched three and a third innings in her start. She allowed one run on four hits. Graduate Alley Cutting (4-1) entered in the fourth and worked Georgia (22-4, 3-2) out of a jam in the inning. She pitched the remaining three and two-thirds innings en route to the victory, striking out three Rebels.
The Rebels (20-11, 4-4) touched home first, plating a lone run in the bottom of the third on an RBI bloop single down the left field line. Kerpics was able to limit the damage in the inning, stranding the bases loaded.
With redshirt-sophomore Jaiden Fields and freshman Jayda Kearney on base, Chambley knocked her NCAA-leading sixth triple of the season to right center to plate both runners and give Georgia a 2-1 lead. Chambley came in to score on an infield single off the bat of freshman Ellie Armistead to widen the lead to 3-1.
Ole Miss threatened in the bottom of the inning but Cutting entered to shut down the Ole Miss offense and preserve the two-run lead.
Neither team scored the remainder of the game as Georgia held on to beat the Rebels 3-1.
The Bulldogs and Rebels are set for the rubber game Sunday in Oxford. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m., ET.
