OXFORD, Miss. – A two-run home run by Ole Miss' Autumn Gillespie in the bottom of the seventh downed the 17th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs Friday evening at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, 6-4.
Sophomore leadoff hitter Sydney Kuma scattered a season-high three of Georgia's eight hits in the game. She was on base a total of four times after being hit by a pitch to lead off the game and scored twice. Fellow sophomore Sara Mosley concluded the contest 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Graduate Mary Wilson Avant (11-2) suffered her second loss of the season in her complete game in the circle. She allowed six runs on eight hits while striking out five Rebels.
Kuma led off the top of the third with a single to left for her second time on base in the game. She advanced to second on a groundout then to third on a single to left by Mosley. Redshirt-sophomore Jaiden Fields sent Georgia's third base hit to left in the inning to drive in Kuma and put Georgia (21-4, 2-2) on the board, 1-0.
Ole Miss' (20-10, 4-3) Paige Smith knocked a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 3-1 on the Bulldogs.
With bases loaded and two out, Georgia capitalized on a Rebel miscue in the fourth inning. Junior Lacey Fincher grounded one back to the pitcher who overthrew first base. Georgia scored two on the play to tie the game at 3-3. Mosley then singled through the left side to plate junior Savana Sikes and put Georgia back in front by one, 4-3.
The Rebels loaded the bases with no out in the home half of the fifth. Ole Miss was able to push an unearned run across in the frame to tie the game, 4-4.
