Georgia Falls to Missouri in Final Road Meet

COLUMBIA, Mo. --- The University of Georgia gymnastics team concluded its road schedule with a loss to Missouri, 196-757-196.100, Friday night at the Hearnes Center.

Three GymDogs took home event titles. Junior Megan Roberts was recognized for her vault- a career-high 9.950, while sophomore Haley de Jong was recognized for her bars (9.875) and beam (9.925) routines. Junior Rachel Baumann took the crown on floor with a career-high 9.950.Â

"There has been fight and so much improvement," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "I saw it all night. All of the season-high scores tonight were wins for the team. This team has improved so much internally. We look forward to being back in Stegeman next week to honor our seniors."

The GymDogs began competition with a steady build on bars, scoring a 48.975 after the first rotation. In her bars debut freshman Katie Finnegan led off with a 9.700, followed by a 9.775 from senior Emily Schild. Next up, junior Megan Roberts swung to a 9.800. Georgia's best score came from sophomore Haley de Jong who scored a 9.875 for her routine and freshman Victoria Nguyen notched a 9.825 for the squad.Â

Moving on to vault in the second rotation, the team posted a 49.275. Roberts led the group with a 9.950 and sophomore Soraya Hawthorne followed that with a 9.900 in the anchor position. Previously, juniors Rachel Baumann and Abbey Ward received a 9.850 and 9.825, respectively.

Bauman shined on floor, performing to her career-best 9.950 and Hawthorne earned a 9.925 to highlight the third rotation. Roberts (9.850), de Jong (9.800), and senior Sterlyn Austin (9.775) also contributed scores for the GymDogs.Â

Georgia wrapped up competition on beam where de Jong led the charge with a 9.925. Junior Mikayla Magee scored her season-best 9.900 to start the event and Finnegan posted a 9.800.Â

The GymDogs conclude regular season competition in Stegeman Coliseum next Friday, March 5 against Kentucky. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on the SEC Network as part of "Friday Night Heights".Â
