No. 18 GymDogs Highlight Senior Night with Victory over No. 14 Kentucky

ATHENS, Ga. – Competing for the last time at home this season, the 18th-ranked University of Georgia GymDogs topped No. 14 Kentucky, 197.325-196.900. The win is particularly special to Georgia's three seniors— Marissa Oakley, Emily Schild and Sterlyn Austin.
"This team loves gymnastics, and I really think that emotion just helped our seniors especially but also our team as a whole ," head coach Courtney Kupets Carter. "It was all about our seniors tonight, and everybody performed for those three – Marissa [Oakley], Emily [Schild] and Sterlyn [Austin]. The love these girls have for each other fuels them, and you really saw that tonight."
Beginning the night on vault, Georgia's Megan Roberts scored her second-straight 9.950 to match her career high in the event. Adding to the GymDogs' score in the first rotation was Mikayla Magee with a 9.850, while Abbey Ward and Rachel Baumann vaulted to scores of 9.825 apiece. A 9.800 from Haley de Jong rounded out the first rotation.
Roberts maintained momentum going into bars, grabbing a 9.925 to lead Georgia in the event. Shining on her senior night, Emily Schild scored a season-high 9.850 in the event. GymDogs Katie Finnegan and Victoria Nguyen also tallied 9.850 scores.
The GymDogs saw their best performances of the night on beam, totaling their highest event score of the season with a 49.475. Both Baumann and de Jong tied their respective career-high marks; Baumann scored a 9.950, while de Jong recorded a 9.925. Oakley also performed to a 9.925, tying her season high. Magee and Nguyen added respective scores of 9.850 and 9.825.
Roberts ended competition the same way she started—with a career-high. She led the GymDogs on floor with a 9.900. Baumann and Soraya Hawthorne each scored 9.875, while Alyssa Perez-Lugones and Sterlyn Austin rounded out the night on floor with 9.825 scores apiece.
The GymDogs head to Huntsville, Ala., next to compete in the SEC Championships beginning Saturday, March 20.
