Bulldogs Open Zone B Diving Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – A pair of close calls marked the day for University of Georgia diving as the Bulldogs opened competition Monday at the 2020 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
In the women's 1-meter springboard prelims, senior McKensi Austin narrowly missed a place in the finals, finishing 19th with a score of 254.15. After falling to 24th place following the fourth round, Austin concluded the event with a mark of 46.25 on her final dive. Sophomore Ellie Crump placed 30th overall with a score of 234.35, turning in her best score of 46.80 on her final dive as well.
On the men's 3-meter springboard, junior Zach Allen also approached the finals with his score of 322.30, finishing in 20th place. After posting scores in the 40s on his first two dives, Allen rebounded with an outstanding 63-point dive in the fourth round to vault back into contention. Fellow junior Josh Getty placed 33rd in the event with a mark of 247.75.
The women's final was won by FIU's Mandy Song with 608.45 points, finishing nearly 30 points ahead of runner-up Molly Carlson of Florida State. In the men's final, South Carolina's Anton Down Jenkins edged Miami's Maxwell Flory with 791.40 points.
Austin, Crump, Allen and Getty will return to action Tuesday for the second day of Zones, beginning with the men's 1-meter prelims at 11 a.m. followed by finals at approximately 1:15 p.m. The women's 3-meter prelims will start at 3:30 p.m. with finals slated for 6 p.m. Live results will be available on DiveMeets.com.
