Bulldogs Head to Mississippi for Weekend of Matches

Athens, Ga. -- The No. 7 Georgia women's tennis team heads to Oxford and Starkville, Miss. for a weekend of matches against Ole Miss and Mississippi State on March 6 at 4 p.m. and March 8 at 2 p.m.

Coming off their first conference win over No. 23 Tennessee, the Bulldogs are currently 6-2 on the season and 1-0 in SEC play. Georgia swept the Lady Vols 4-0 picking up the doubles point, and singles wins from Meg Kowalski,  Marta Gonzalez and Katarina Jokic. 

In the most recent ITA rankings, the Bulldogs jumped two spots to No. 7 from No. 9, and from No. 7 to No. 5 in the USTA polls. In doubles, the duo of Jokic and Anna Hertel moved up just one spot to No. 30 and the duo of Morgan Coppoc and Kowalski cap off the Bulldogs with a ranking of 54. In singles, six Bulldogs are in the mix with Elena Christofi being the newest addition coming in at No. 122, her first ranking since the preseason ranking at No. 113 this season. Coppoc and Gonzalez come in at No. 85 and No. 84, respectively. Kowalski is now ranked No. 60, freshman Lea Ma jumped up five spots to No. 29 and Jokic improved one spot to No. 26.

 Ole Miss is coming off a 4-1 win over Kentucky and sports an overall record of 9-3 and is 1-1 in conference play. Three Rebels are ranked in singles competition with Sabina Machalova leading the way at No. 50. In doubles, two duos are ranked with Alexa Bortles and Machalova at No. 53, the highest for Ole Miss. Georgia holds a 40-10 record all time against the Rebels.

Mississippi State is coming off a 4-3 loss to Vanderbilt but will face off against Tennessee on March 6 before Georgia comes to Starkville. Mississippi State has an overall record of 7-4 and a 1-1 mark in conference play. One Bulldog is ranked, Emma Antonaki at No. 88. Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine are the only duo ranked for Mississippi State as well. Georgia holds a 42-0 record against Mississippi State.

Georgia will return home to host Florida on March 13 and South Carolina on March 15, both at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
