Georgia Hosts Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet

ATHENS, Ga. – In the final qualifying opportunity before NCAA Championships, University of Georgia swimming and diving hosts the annual Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet on Saturday, Feb. 29 and Sunday, March 1 at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
In addition to Georgia's competitors, the meet will feature athletes from eight additional institutions, including Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Hawaii, Miami (Fla.) and South Carolina. Each day of competition will involve a morning prelims session at 10 a.m., followed by evening finals at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. Live results from this weekend's meet will be available on GeorgiaDogs.com and the MeetMobile app.
Georgia (No. 8/12 in final CSCAA rankings) returns to the water one week after a successful outing at the SEC Swimming & Diving Championships in Auburn, Ala. The Bulldogs earned six individual conference championships and 26 overall medals as the men finished third and the women placed fourth.
Freshman Zoie Hartman took first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events along with a silver medal in the 200 IM, breaking her own school record in the 100. In both breaststroke events, she was followed in second by junior Danielle Della Torre, who posted the No. 2 100 breast time in school history.
Junior Courtney Harnish defended her crown in the 500 freestyle as she grabbed a team-leading five medals. Senior Veronica Burchill earned her first individual title with a win in the 200 freestyle, while sophomore Dakota Luther prevailed in the 200 butterfly. In relays, the 400 freestyle relay (Burchill, Hartman, junior Gabi Fa'amausili and Harnish) closed the meet with a silver medal, following a bronze by the 800 freestyle relay (Harnish, senior Jordan Stout, Luther and Hartman).
On the men's side, junior Camden Murphy repeated in the 200 butterfly, with freshman Harry Homans joining him on the podium with a bronze medal. Murphy also placed third in the 100 butterfly. Fellow junior Greg Reed finished second in the 1,650 freestyle, while the 800 freestyle relay (senior Walker Higgins, freshman Zach Hils, Homans and junior Grant Norgan) took bronze.
Entering this final weekend of the season, the Lady Bulldogs hold 10 A-cuts, including three from Hartman and two from Burchill, along with Luther in the 200 fly and four in relays. Luther's SEC Championship time of 1:52.47 is ranked first in the nation, while Burchill sits third in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 free, with Hartman ranking fourth in all three of her main events.
Harnish holds three top-10 rankings: fourth in the 200 fly, fifth in the 500 free and eighth in the 200 free. Della Torre sits at seventh in the 200 breast and eighth in the 100 breast, with the 400 free relay standing fifth overall.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs have posted two A-cuts: Murphy in the 200 fly and the 800 free relay. Murphy is second nationally in the 200 fly and sixth in the 100, while Reed is fifth in the mile and Higgins ranks eighth in the 500 free.
Following this weekend's meet, the Bulldogs will prepare for NCAA postseason events. First, the Zone B Diving Championships will be held at Gabrielsen Natatorium on March 9-11. Currently, junior Zach Allen has qualified on the 1 and 3-meter springboards, sophomore Ellie Crump is set on the 3-meter, while seniors Freida Lim and McKensi Austin will compete in all three events.
Following Zones, the Lady Bulldogs will host the NCAA Women's Championships at Gabrielsen on March 18-21, followed by the NCAA Men's Championships in Indianapolis on March 25-28.
