Bulldogs To Open Spring in Puerto Rico

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia men's golf team will open the spring portion of its schedule next week in the Puerto Rico Classic.
 
Lineup: Seniors Will Chandler and Spencer Ralston; junior Davis Thompson; sophomore Trent Phillips; and freshman Connor Creasy. Sophomore Will Kahlstorf will represent Georgia in the Puerto Rico Individual Classic.
 
Field: Georgia, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Purdue, Alabama, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Marquette, East Carolina, Iowa, College of Charleston, Maryland.
 
Schedule: The Bulldogs and the other teams will have shotgun starts at 7 a.m. EST/8 a.m. AST on Sunday and Monday, and 6:30 a.m. EST/7:30 a.m. AST on Tuesday.
 
Courses: Teams — Rio Mar River Course (par 72, 6,902 yards). Individuals — Rio Mar Ocean Course (par 71, 6,782 yards).
 
Live Results: Golfstat will provide live scoring for the Puerto Rico Classic and the Puerto Rico Individual Classic.
 
Stats and Stuff: Phillips led the Bulldogs in the fall with a scoring average of 69.44. Thompson was second at 69.47, followed by Ralston at 71.07. … Phillips, Thompson, and Ralston appeared in every event in the fall. … Creasy saw action in three fall tournaments and Chandler appeared in two events. … Kahlstorf will be making his 2019-20 debut for the Bulldogs. … During the fall, the Bulldogs won the Jim Rivers Invitational and the Crooked Stick Invitational. … Phillips was the medalist at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic and Thompson claimed the Jim Rivers Invitational. … Thompson is the highest-rated individual in the Golfweek/Sagarin poll at No. 17, followed by Phillips at No. 20. … Thompson will be staying in Puerto Rico after the college tournament to compete in the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open Feb. 20-23 at Coco Beach Golf and Country Club in Rio Grande.
 
Coach Chris Haack Says: "It's exciting to open the spring back in Puerto Rico. We're going to go down there and try to win it again. It's a place where we've enjoyed some success over the years. The guys have been working hard during the break, but they're ready to get into competition and start playing some tournaments. I'm pleased with where we are physically and mentally. We're playing with a lot of confidence."
 
Rankings: No. 20 Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll; No. 21 Golfweek/Sagarin.
 
Last Time: The Bulldogs won the Puerto Rico Classic in 2019 with a score of 16-under 848. Phillips paced Georgia with a fourth-place finish at 5-under 211. Georgia also won the Puerto Rico Classic in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2015.
 
On Deck: After the Puerto Rico Classic, the Bulldogs will play March 1-3 in the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate in Las Vegas.
