RIO MAR, P.R. — Sophomore Jo Hua Hung fired a season-low 2-under 70 to lead the Georgia women's golf team in the final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday. The Bulldogs posted an 8-over 296 on the day and finished in eighth place overall at the Rio Mar Country Club.
"Jo had a great round today after struggling a bit the first two days," head coach Josh Brewer said. "Hopefully, she found something that she can build on going forward. As a team, we played 13-14 holes really well and had about 3-4 of holes where we struggled. I know how talented we are so I'm going to attribute that to a bit of rust and not competing for a while. We'll touch up some things and get ready for our next event."
In addition to Hung's tally, the Bulldogs also counted a pair of 75s from Jenny Bae and Candice Mahe and a 76 by Caterina Don, while dropping Céleste Dao's 78.
Overall, Bae and Don led Georgia by tying for 19th on the individual leaderboard at 4-over 220. Hung vaulted 24 spots in the field with her effort Tuesday and tied for 31st at 223. In addition, Mahe tied for 43rd at 225; Caroline Craig, who competed individually, tied for 47th at 226; and Dao tied for 53rd at 229.
Hung was extremely steady throughout her round. She teed off from No. 10 with a shotgun start and immediately birdied that hole. After nine straight pars, she posted her lone bogey of the day at No. 2. A birdie at No. 3 and another at 7 gave her the best single round of any Georgia golfer over all three days.
Georgia will return to action later this month when the Bulldogs compete in The Gold Rush, which will be hosted by Long Beach State at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif., on Feb. 24-25.
