FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Georgia women's golf team carded a 9-over 297 in Wednesday's final round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational presented by Tyson Foods, placing the Bulldogs in fifth place in the team field at 31-over 895.
Jo Hua Hung led the Bulldogs with a 1-over 73. Georgia's additional counting tallies came from Candice Mahe, who shot 74, and Jenny Bae and Caterina Don, who both signed for 75s.
"It was kind of like the first two days where we had a lot of solid golf," head coach Josh Brewer said. "This course is extremely challenging and we didn't have those 3- and 4-under type of rounds that the teams ahead of us seemed to have."
Overall on the individual leaderboard, Bae tied for 11th at 222, Don and Mahe both tied for 18th at 114, Hung tied for 37th at 231 and Isabella Holpfer, who shot 79 on Wednesday, tied for 47th at 235.
"You look at the names in the field and this would be a very highly ranked amateur tournament," Brewer said. "There were some of the best golfers in the world here. We had three top-20 finishes. What we're trying to do is build depth to where we have four or five players finishing in the top 10 in a field like this."
The Blessings tournament featured all 14 SEC schools' women's and men's teams, competing in multiple competitions. In addition to the women's finish, Georgia's combined score of 50-over placed UGA fifth. Davis Thompson and Don, the top golfers in Georgia's men's and women's lineups, paired to take second place in the BCI's co-ed "best ball" competition. The Bulldog tandem covered the 54-hole event at 21-under as a team, just a stroke shy of winners Julian Perico and Brooke Matthews of Arkansas.
The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks when the compete in The Ally, which will be hosted by Mississippi State on Oct. 19-21 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
"It's a good start," Brewer said. "It was basically and SEC Championships preview. We finished fifth. We obviously want to finish four spots higher than that come April, but we learned a lot about ourselves and a few things we need to clean up before we head to Mississippi."
