Bulldogs Conclude Successful SEC Challenge

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Georgia women's tennis team concluded its first fall competition at the SEC Challenge hosted by Alabama Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs compiled four doubles wins and six singles wins against the Crimson Tide on Sunday afternoon.
 
Over the course of the weekend, Georgia earned 20 singles wins and 11 doubles wins over three matches with extended lineups. Katarina Jokic was named the singles champion after going 3-0 on the weekend, and Marlee Zein and McCartney Kessler of Florida were named doubles champions.

In doubles, the duo of Meg Kowalski and Ania Hertel defeated Anna Parkhomenko and Moka Ito on court three 6-2. On court two, Morgan Coppoc and Elena Christofi bested Isabella Harvison and Alba Cortina Pou 6-2 as well and Marta Gonzalez and Alee Clayton handled Sasha Gorchanyuk and Vanesa Nikolovova 6-2. Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arseneault completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win over Sydney Riley and Marie Hiser on court one.
 
In singles, Kowalski was first to finish off Parkhomenko 6-1, 6-3 on court six. Jokic was right behind her taking down Harvison 6-1, 6-3 on court one. Coppoc defeated Ito on court two, 6-1, 6-3. Hertel on court four beat Riley 7-5, 6-0 right before Gonzalez defeated Cortina Pou 6-2, 6-2. Clayton was the last Bulldog to secure a win, coming back down a set to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Gorchanyuk. Christofi suffered her first loss of the fall, getting bested by Nikolovova 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 and Arseneault was defeated by Hiser, falling 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
 
The Bulldogs will be back in action in Knoxville, Tenn., Oct. 16-18 for another weekend of SEC opponent fall competition.
