PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. --- The Georgia men's golf team stood fourth after the first round of The Carmel Cup on Friday.

Playing the Pebble Beach Golf Links' par-72, 6,828-yard layout, the Bulldogs landed at 4-over 364. Oklahoma grabbed the first-round lead at 11-under 349, followed by Arkansas at 7-under 353, and Texas Tech at 2-under 358. The Carmel Cup is the season opener for the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Trent Phillips paced the Bulldogs on Friday as he signed for a 5-under 67. Phillips is second individually, just one shot shy of Oklahoma's Garett Reband. Phillips notched the 27th par-or-better round in his Georgia career, which has spanned 36 loops.

Senior Spencer Ralston followed with a 2-under 70 for ninth and junior Davis Thompson posted an even-par 72 for 17th. Senior Calum Masters, making his Georgia debut after sitting out last year following a transfer from Troy, carded a 2-over 74. Seniors Will Chandler and Trevor Phillips recorded 9-over 81s.

Earlier Friday, Trent Phillips, Ralston, and Thompson were named to Golf Channel's Watch List for the Haskins Award, which is awarded annually to the most outstanding men's college golfer. Georgia's Russell Henley won the Haskins Award in 2010.

The Bulldogs will tee off in 10-minute increments between 11 and 11:50 a.m. EDT on Saturday and will be paired with Texas Tech, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Live scoring and pairings can be found at Golfstat.

"We had a solid enough first day, but we know we can do better," Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. "Our front nine started off well and was pretty good at the turn (4-under), but we were all over the map on the back nine. We did not close as well as I would have liked, but that's a teachable situation. We have two rounds to go and we're very much in the hunt."

Georgia entered the year No. 7 in Golfweek's Division I Men's Preseason Rankings, No. 9 on GolfChannel.com, and No. 13 in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.
