ATHENS, Ga. — Junior college standouts Alison Crenshaw and Zoe Walker are set to join the University of Georgia women's golf team this fall, head coach Josh Brewer announced on Friday.
Both golfers will be juniors with two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
"We could not be more excited about adding to our already outstanding 2019 class," head coach Josh Brewer said. "Alison and Zoe are outstanding student-athletes and will be perfect additions to our roster. We want to thank the Crenshaw and Walker families for trusting the University of Georgia to guide their daughters academically and athletically through their college experience."
Crenshaw, who is from Suwanee, Ga., will transfer to UGA from Daytona State Community College. She was a two-time first-team National Junior College Athletic Association Championships (NJCAA) All-American and recorded top-10 individual finishes at each of the last two NJCAA, placing sixth in 2019 and 10th in 2018. Crenshaw helped the Falcons capture the 2018 NJCAA team title and to a second-place effort in 2019. Crenshaw attended Lambert High School, where she won four state team titles with the Longhorns.
"Alison comes from a history of being a key part of championship teams, both in high school and junior college," Brewer said. "She has played her best golf each season when her team needed her the most. Her experience of competing under pressure situations will be a great asset to our program. Alison grew up a Dawg fan and had dreams of wearing the Red and Black. Coming out of high school, she needed more national experience and seasoning to play in the SEC. Instead of settling on other offers, she decided to attend national powerhouse Daytona State and learn as much as she could from Coach (Laura) Brown and her teammates before playing Division I golf. We are excited that Alison took a chance on herself as now we have another great Georgia native playing in Athens."
Walker, who is from Palm Desert, Calif., has won medalist honors at seven events over the past two years while playing for the College of the Desert. She earned Pacific Coast Conference MVP accolades this spring as a sophomore and was tabbed All-PCC in each of her seasons with the Roadrunners. Walker also was named to the California Community College All-State team in 2019 after finishing fifth individually and leading the Roadrunners to a runner-up team finish at the state championship.
"Zoe is a competitor who will bring depth and leadership to our program." Brewer said. "She is still fairly new to the game of golf as she has only been competing for a little over five years; however, she has already shown the ability to win as she carries herself with a lot of confidence. I am excited to have Zoe in Athens and continue to help mold her game as she wants to learn and help us reach the top of the SEC and return to the national championship."
The Bulldogs will feature a deep and talented roster for the 2019-20 campaign. Georgia's top returnees are Jenny Bae, Harmie Constantino and Jo Hua Hung, who all earned spots on the SEC's All-Freshman team in 2019. Seniors Gabriela Coello and Kelsey Kurnett also return. In addition, standout amateurs Celeste Dao, Caterina Don and Caroline Craig will join the Bulldogs as freshman. Dao recently qualified for her second straight U.S. Women's Open, Don finished 12th at the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur in April and Craig was named the 2017 Georgia Girls' Junior of the Year by the Georgia State Golf Association.
