WACO, Texas – The No. 6 University of Georgia equestrian team is one of eight teams in the nation set to compete for the 2019 National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Championship Title in Waco, Texas, on April 17-20 at the Extraco Event Center.

The Bulldogs (5-7, 4-4 SEC) look to claim their seventh national title as they head into the 2019 National Championship. Georgia will compete against No. 3 Baylor (9-4, 3-1 Big12) in the team competition on Thursday, April 18. Georgia fell to the Bears, 11-8, during regular season competition at Baylor. The Bears went on to defeat Oklahoma State for the 2019 Big 12 title.

For event competition, Georgia was seeded third in Reining, securing a first-round bye. Two Bulldog squads will compete against South Dakota State for event competition, Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences. Georgia's Horsemanship team is the No. 8 seed and will take on No. 9 UT Martin.Â

"How exciting to be here in Waco—the place where I think we can really show off our battle tested team," Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. "We have a lot of opportunity to get into that National Championship and be successful. Everybody here is excited! We are being very strategic, and really the word is ready."

Georgia holds the most NCEA Overall Championship crowns with six, coming in at 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2014. Georgia's win in the semifinals would mark the 12th time in 13 years that Georgia will advance to the final round of national competition.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
NCEA National Championship Team Title—The top 8 teams will be competing in the NCEA National Championship Team Title. Each team will compete head to head with 4 riders in each of the Events; Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat for the Hunt Seat events and Reining and Horsemanship for the Western events. The team that receives the most points (16 possible points available for each matchup) will advance to the next day. The team competition begins on Thursday with the quarterfinals and the semifinals. The conclusion of the team events run on championship Saturday.

NCEA National Championship Event Titles—The top 16 teams will compete in separate brackets for each event; Equitation over Fences, Equitation on the Flat, Horsemanship and Reining starting on Wednesday, April 17th with the first round of action. Each event quarter finals and semifinals will take place on Friday, April 19th and the finals for each event will take place on Championship Saturday following the Team Overall National Championship.

NCEA National Championship Discipline Titles for Hunt Seat and Western:Â The combined points each team accrues in the NCEA Hunter Seat Discipline Competitions (Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat) and the NCEA Western Discipline Competitions (Horsemanship and Reining) will determine the Overall Discipline titles.
