ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia men's tennis team heads west this week for a pair of matches in the state of Mississippi.
The Bulldogs will battle the Ole Miss Rebels at 6 p.m. CT/7 p.m. ET this Friday in Oxford, Miss., before facing Mississippi State at 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET on Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville, Miss.
Georgia has won two its last three matches and currently stands in fourth place in the Southeastern Conference standings with a 3-2 league record. Ole Miss is 2-4 in SEC action, while the eighth-ranked State Bulldogs are 5-1 against conference foes.
Freshman Philip Henning leads Georgia in dual-match play with a team-best 9-4 record, including a perfect 4-0 mark against ranked opponents. Veterans Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski, who are 3-1 in doubles against SEC opponents, have each totaled seven singles victories since January.
As a team, the Bulldogs moved up four spots to No. 22 in this week's Oracle/ITA tennis rankings. Georgia moved up to No. 19 in the USTA College Tennis top-25. Individually, Zielinski is the highest ranked Bulldog with a No. 13 mark in singles.
Following this weekend's action, Georgia returns home to host Alabama and Auburn next weekend.
