Series History
North Carolina - Georgia leads 9-4
» Wednesday's game will be the 14th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Tar Heels, the first since 2016, also in Athens. UNC won in eight innings, 2-1. 
» The last six meetings have been in Athens, three of which came in NCAA Regional action.
» Five of the last six meetings have finished as one-run games. 
» In Athens, Georgia is 4-3 in the series but is 4-0 on the road. 
» The series dates back to 1998, the second season of Georgia softball.
 
A Look Back
Georgia softball wrapped up tournament action with the UGA Classic this past weekend. The Bulldogs finished the tournament 5-1 while earning three more shutouts on the season, brining the count to 13. Highlights of the weekend included Alyssa DiCarlo breaking the all-time home runs record, a grand slam and six-RBI performance from Savana Sikes, and a combined no-hitter by Mary Wilson Avant and Amanda Ablan. 
 
Georgia in the Polls
The Bulldogs stay at #8 in the week five USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll while dropping a spot to 39 in the USA Softball/ESPN.com Poll. 
 
Coaching Connection
Georgia Associate Head Coach Tony Baldwin spent two seasons as an assistant coach at North Carolina. In 2014, Baldwin coached four .300 hitters and had three players hit double-digit home runs. Under Baldwin's guidance, three Tar Heels were named to the All-ACC Team, including one first-team selection and two second-team selections. In his first season, he helped nine Tar Heels finish the season batting over .300 while six had slugging percentages over .500.
 
DiCarlo Crushes All-Time Home Runs Record
In the Mar. 10 game against Western Illinois at Jack Turner Stadium, Alyssa DiCarlo became Georgia's new all-time home runs leader, breaking the record of 58 set by Alisa Goler (2008-11). She hit two home runs in the game to tie then break the record with home runs 58 and 59. 
 
Clutch Freshman
Freshman Savana Sikes has propelled to the not only the team leader in RBI but is now tied for the national lead with 36. Sikes knocked in six runs including a grand slam against Western Illinois (3/11) to jump into the lead. She's second on the team with six home runs in her rookie campaign. 
 
Chasing 1,000
Currently at 999 program wins, Georgia softball will look to record the 1,000th victory in program history in this season. Georgia will look to become only the fifth Division I program competing since 1996 or later to reach the 1,000-win mark. That group includes SEC programs Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and LSU. 
 
You Shall Not Pass! 
With a 15.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio, Kylie Bass leads the country in the category. Her 0.60 walks allowed per seven innings also ranks among the best in the NCAA at seventh. 
 
Top ERA in the League
After a good week in the circle, Georgia now leads the SEC with a 1.48 ERA. The staff's ERA ranks ninth in NCAA. Individually, Lauren Mathis' 0.64 clip also is the best in the SEC and ranks seventh in the country. 
 
Doggett Seeing Double 
Leading the team with 10 doubles, six of which have come in the last 10 games, Jordan Doggett ranks fourth nationally and leads the SEC. 
 
Walk It Out
Averaging 0.96 walks per game, Alyssa DiCarlo ranks third in the country (first in the SEC) in the category. Freshman Lacey Fincher comes in at fifth nationally (second in the SEC) with 0.93 per game. 
 
I Volunteer as Tribute
Freshman Savana Sikes is currently tied for third in the country with four sacrifice flies in her rookie season. That figure leads the SEC. 
 
Bulldogs Smash
Georgia currently leads in the nation in scoring (8.3 runs per game) and third in slugging percentage (.627) and on base percentage (.448). Additionally, the Bulldogs rank seventh with 1.52 home runs per game. Individually, Alyssa DiCarlo is tied for the national lead in home runs (14) along with being third in total RBI (35) and slugging (1.200).
 
DiCarlo Leads Active Career Leaders in RBI and Total Bases
Senior Alyssa DiCarlo leads active Division I softball student-athletes with 229 career RBI and 477 total bases. In additional categories, she ranks second in home runs (59) and fourth in doubles (49). 
 
A Triple Threat
Junior Ciara Bryan has 13 triples in her career as a Bulldog. That number ranks fourth at Georgia. Among active career Division I players, that figure ranks sixth. 
 
The Sprint to 10 Home Runs
In the Mar. 6 game at Georgia Tech, Alyssa DiCarlo hit her 10th home run of the season. She reached the 10-home run plateau in 21 games, tying Alisa Goler to the fastest Bulldog to 10 home runs in a season (2009). 
 
Baldwin Named to USA Softball U-19 Women's National Team Coaching Staff
USA Softball announced the coaching staff for the 2019 U-19 Women's National Team. Georgia associate head coach Tony Baldwin has been named to the staff as an assistant coach. Baldwin, who is currently in his fifth season with the Bulldogs, will make his first appearance on the USA Softball U19 WNT staff. Cindy Ball-Malone (Head Coach at UCF) and Tim Walton (Head Coach at Florida) will also serve as assistant coaches on the staff under head coach Heather Tarr (Head Coach at Washington). The U-19 team will look to become the first, three peat U-19 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's World Cup.
