ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia men's tennis team defeated Mercer 6-1 Tuesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs, 4-3 on the year, earned their fourth win in the last five matches and wrapped up a three-match home stand with a trio of victories.

"We certainly played very good doubles. I think our teams seemed to jell really well. Our No. 2 team [freshmen Philip Henning and Trent Bryde], this is now their second match together. They're greatly improved there, and then I thought Alex Diaz and Robert Loeb played very well at No. 3," head coach Manuel Diaz said. "Overall, just very pleased with our second match outside and feeling very comfortable there."

The Bulldogs secured the doubles point with some different pairings than Monday's match. On court two, Georgia's freshman tandem of Bryde and Henning earned their third-straight victory to start the season with a 6-2 decision. Redshirt-sophomore Alex Diaz and junior Robert Loeb added the clinching doubles win, downing Mercer 6-4 on court three.

In singles play, Diaz registered the first singles win on court six 6-1, 6-3 over Carver Arant. Henning, ranked #85 heading into the week, earned the next victory by way of a 6-3, 6-2 final over Stathis Tsiranidis. Loeb, ranked #110 nationally, added the 6-2, 6-4 win on court three over Fernando Guardia to seal the Georgia win.

As the Bulldogs finished out the remaining matches, Bryde recouped from a 4-6 loss in the first set to win the next set 6-4. He concluded his match with a 10-7 victory in a third-set tiebreak. Fellow freshman Blake Croyder returned into the singles lineup, earning a 6-4, 7-6 (7) victory on court five.

Next up, the Bulldogs travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, on Friday, March 1, to take on No. 19 Tennessee in the Southeastern Conference opener at 6:00 p.m.
