Season Opener With Dayton Now Friday At 3 PM
February 14, 2019 | Baseball
ATHENS-----Due to the threat of inclement weather Friday, ninth-ranked Georgia will open the 2019 season against Dayton a couple hours earlier with first pitch at Foley Field slated for 3 p.m.Â
The entire three-game series with the Flyers at Foley Field will be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network and streamed on SEC Network+.Â
Georgia sophomore right-hander Emerson Hancock draws the Opening Day start while the Flyers counter with junior left-hander Hunter Wolfe. Hancock went 6-4 with a 5.10 ERA last season. Wolfe is in his first season at Dayton after going 5-1 with a 3.83 ERA at Wabash College in 2018. Hancock is one of 25 returning lettermen including eight pitchers that helped the Bulldogs go 39-21 last year and advance to the NCAA Athens Regional Final.
Georgia welcomes back seven starting position players including preseason All-American third baseman/closer Aaron Schunk, preseason All-SEC second baseman LJ Talley and sophomore preseason All-SEC catcher Mason Meadows. Georgia's projected starting pitchers for games two and three will be junior right-handers Will Proctor and Tony Locey.
Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin begins his sixth season at the helm for the Bulldogs. Talley and senior relief pitcher Adam Goodman have been elected captains for the 2019 squad. Georgia Baseball is the oldest varsity sport on campus, and the 2019 campaign will mark the 132ndseason. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Bulldogs and the Flyers.
