COLUMBUS, Ohio— The 24th-ranked University of Georgia men's tennis squad fell, 4-0, to the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.
"Ohio State has a great team," Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. "I was pleased with doubles, even though we didn't win. I thought we played well in all three doubles. [Ohio State] was really good early in sets, in both singles and doubles, especially on deuce points. [The Buckeyes] were much more comfortable on their quick courts, and they pressured us constantly."
Ohio State won on all three courts to notch the doubles point for the Buckeyes. On court two, the Bulldogs' 46th-ranked pair of freshman Phillip Henning and senior Walker Duncan fell, 6-4, to the Buckeyes' team of Alex Kobelt and James Trotter. Ohio State's John McNally and Hunter Tubert then took a 6-2 victory over Georgia's team of redshirt-sophomore Alex Diaz and senior Emil Reinberg. The Buckeyes took the 1-0 lead into singles play.
The Buckeyes' winning streak continued into singles play, where Ohio State defeated the Bulldogs in three-straight matches to grab the win over Georgia. On court four, Henning fell to Ohio State's Joyce, 6-3, 6-2. The Buckeyes grabbed another win at court six, where Ohio State's Tubert defeated freshman Blake Croyder, 6-2, 6-4. Lastly, senior Bulldog Duncan fell to his 86th-ranked Buckeye opponent Kobelt, 6-4, 6-3, helping the Buckeyes finalize their 4-0 win over the Bulldogs.
