February 14, 2019 | Men's Tennis

ATHENS, Ga. — After taking the doubles point, the No. 24-ranked Georgia men's tennis squad reeled in six singles wins to finalize its 7-0 victory over the Presbyterian College Blue Hose (5-4) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon.

"Our guys came out focused and played well," Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. "We were challenged, and Presbyterian's got a good team. Our kids did a phenomenal job. Everybody went out there, not just as a day to get a match in, but came out to get better. I'm impressed with how they handled it."

The Bulldogs secured the doubles point on courts one and two. On court two, the freshman team of Philip Henning and Trent Bryde defeated Presbyterian's tandem of Jaime Castillo-Lopez and Max Benson, 6-1, to grab Georgia's first win of the day. Next, the senior duo of Emil Reinberg and Walker Duncan played to a 6-3 win over Oscar Alvarez and Daniel Stenger of Presbyterian College. The Georgia squad headed into singles play with a 1-0 advantage over the Blue Hose.

Georgia then swept singles play to win the match, 7-0. Freshman Henning continued his stellar performance on court three, where the South Africa native sealed a 6-1, 6-0, victory over Blue Hose player Alberto Conde. Henning's win pushed Georgia's lead to 2-0. Next on court six, redshirt junior Alex Phillips defeated Alvarez, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Robert Loeb then clinched the win for Georgia on court two, ousting his opponent by a score of 6-3, 6-1, for a 4-0 Bulldog advantage.

The Bulldogs continued play on courts one, four and five. Reinberg won, 7-5, 6-2, on court one, while freshman Blake Croyder took court four, 6-4, 6-2. A tiebreaker win of 6-4, 7-6 (5) by redshirt sophomore Alex Diaz rounded out the match for the Bulldogs, who capped the match with a 7-0 victory.

With this win, Georgia improves to an overall record of 2-3.

The Bulldogs welcome Florida Atlantic University (FAU) on Monday, Feb. 25, and Mercer on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Both matches are set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
