Gators Edge Bulldogs In Exhibition

JACKSONVILLE, FLA.----Florida posted a 5-3 win over Georgia in an exhibition at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Friday in front of a crowd of 8,640.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead 2-0 after two frames but the Gators responded with a four-run inning in the third to take the lead for good. The Gators used 11 pitchers on the night while Georgia employed nine in its final fall action.
Georgia sophomore Randon Jernigan went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs to pace the Bulldogs. Florida centerfielder Jud Fabian delivered the big hit, a three-run double off freshman Brandon Smith. Florida reliever Brandon Sproat picked up the win while Smith got the loss. Christian Scott notched the save with a perfect ninth.
"We had one rough inning that was the difference in the game," said Georgia's Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin. "Overall, I was pleased with how we competed."
Georgia senior Drew Moody started and pitched around three walks for a scoreless frame. Trevor Tinder followed with a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Freshman Jonathan Cannon pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.
The Bulldogs executed a double steal with Cole Tate and Chaney Rogers in the second as Rogers stole home for a 2-0 advantage. Trailing 5-2 in the sixth, Jernigan tripled to centerfield and scored on an RBI-groundout by senior Cam Shepherd.
"It was really fun," said sophomore outfielder Randon Jernigan. "We've been to crazy places like this before, but the whole thing was fun."
"The city of Jacksonville has to be very pleased with this tonight," Stricklin added. "The crowd, the energy, it just seemed very positive. It seemed like it went very well from the dugout, seeing all the seats were full. To be able to do that in the fall is a great experience for all players."
