Wes Johnson Earns Contract Extension Through 2032

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia and Ike Cousins head baseball coach Wes Johnson have agreed to a contract extension through 2032 with an increased compensation package, J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks announced Wednesday.
"We are thrilled to announce another contract extension for Wes (Johnson) who has elevated our baseball program to one of the best and most consistent in the country," said Brooks. "His leadership and commitment to excellence resulted in one of the finest seasons in school history last year including an SEC regular season title, the first-ever SEC Tournament title, a third-place finish at the College World Series (CWS) and national-leading 13 players selected in the 2026 Major League Baseball draft."
In three seasons at the helm, Johnson has led the Bulldogs to 139 wins, three NCAA Tournaments as a national top eight seed, played host to three NCAA Regionals, two NCAA Super Regionals and advanced to the 2026 College World Series.
In 2026, Georgia tallied a school record 53 victories, made its seventh all-time appearance at the College World Series and had a final national ranking of No. 3. The 53-14 record including going 30-9 against Southeastern Conference teams. Also, for the second time in three seasons, Georgia had a player win the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award, which are widely considered the Heisman Trophy of college baseball and the top amateur player honor in the country. In 2024, third baseman/outfielder Charlie Condon swept these major awards while last year, it was catcher Daniel Jackson. Condon became a first- round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies in 2024, and then the Rockies selected Jackson during the first round in 2026.
In year three of the Johnson era at Georgia, he led the Bulldogs back to the CWS for the first time since 2008 as the team earned a program best No. 3 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament. Georgia captured its first SEC title since 2008 with a 23-7 mark and won the league by 3.5 games. Georgia became the first school in SEC history to win all five of its SEC road series against top 25 opponents.
The Bulldogs won their first SEC Tournament title and successfully hosted and won an NCAA Regional and Super Regional in Athens at Foley Field to advance to Omaha for the CWS. Georgia went 2-2 at the CWS to finish tied for third. The 2026 Bulldogs led the NCAA with a school record 13 MLB draft picks, 179 home runs plus set program marks with 611 runs scored, 583 RBI, 1,405 total bases and 700 strikeouts by the pitching staff.
