Georgia Caps Road Slate in Tuscaloosa

ATHENS, Ga. – Coming off a conference win against Auburn at home, the No. 21 Georgia Bulldog men's tennis team concludes conference play on the road against Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. ET at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.

After dropping a 4-0 decision to now-No. 7 Mississippi State, a team in the midst of a 10-game win streak, the Bulldogs from Athens rebounded on Easter Sunday to take a 6-1 victory from Auburn, highlighted by a doubles sweep and five singles wins from Montgomery, Reinberg, Ponwith, Zielinski and Diaz.

Georgia has not dropped a match to Alabama (15-8) since 2003; a win would secure the Bulldogs' 16th-straight victory over the Crimson Tide, who have recorded a 1-7 clip in conference play. Georgia marks the Tide's fourth-straight ranked opponent in a string of seven consecutive ranked contests. The doubles duo of sophomore Nathan Ponwith and senior Wayne Montgomery are set to face off with Alabama's doubles team of Ortiz and Osama, who have totaled a 14-4 clip during dual play, the most of any SEC tandem this season.

After Alabama, Georgia caps the 2018 regular season at home against No. 23 Vanderbilt and No. 22 Kentucky at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Then, the Bulldogs will return to Tuscaloosa to partake in the SEC Tournament in search of their sixth-straight conference title.

MONTGOMERY PACING SINGLES ACTION
The veteran of the six singles courts, Montgomery leads the Bulldogs with a 27-13 record on the season. 10-7 in dual play, the highest-ranked Bulldog at No. 19 has been a crucial factor on both the first and second courts. On the second, Montgomery won five of the last six matches on the second court, a clip that sits third-best in the conference, featuring a lone loss against now-No. 10 Arthur Rinderknech of Texas A&M. Montgomery returned to the first court last weekend, returning after a battle against No. 3 Nuno Borges to clinch Georgia's victory against Auburn on Sunday.

THE COMMON DOUBLES DENOMINATORS
Jan Zielinski boasts a top-25 ranking on two different doubles teams, one with Loeb and the other with Walker Duncan. The junior is now paired with Alex Phillips on the second court. Wayne Montgomery has also showcased his consistency in doubles on the second court, with a team-best 18-8 overall clip on the year, and 10-4 in dual play. Teamed with both Duncan and Ponwith over the year, the current Montgomery-Ponwith tandem has provided two clinching matches in doubles since their pairing, and has won the last three completed matches.

CONSISTENCY KEY FOR LOWER COURTS
The fourth, fifth and singles courts have combined for a 28-13 clip on the dual play season. The three courts have featured six different Bulldogs. The mainstays include Walker Duncan, Jan Zielinski and Robert Loeb. Zielinski leads the team with 13 wins in dual play, only dropping two matches this season. The lower courts have also clinched all but three matches this season: Zielinski and Loeb have each closed out three matches apiece, with a trio of clinching contests all coming from Loeb. On the fifth court, four different Bulldogs have competed – Walker Duncan, Jan Zielinski, Robert Loeb and Alex Diaz – and only fallen twice all season.

GEORGIA FLEXES DEPTH IN DUAL PLAY
Seven different Bulldogs have posted wins in singles this year, with three different Georgia players taking turns on the sixth court. Georgia is the only team in the ITA/Oracle Tennis Rankings to total six ranked singles players. Top-ranked Wake Forest and Texas A&M follow with five ranked players in the singles lineup.
