No. 24 Georgia Defeats Morgan State, 60-33
November 22, 2018 | Women's Basketball
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico— Georgia Lady Bulldog senior forward Caliya Robinson led all scorers with 19 points and redshirt sophomore Jenna Staiti added 10 in a 60-33 Thanksgiving victory against Morgan State inside the Coliseo Ruben Zayas.
The Lady Bulldogs move to 3-2 overall this season and will meet No. 7-ranked Maryland on Saturday at noon ET. Morgan State falls to 1-5 this year.
Robinson and Staiti combined to go 13-of-23 from the floor to lead the Lady Bulldogs offensively. Georgia held the Bears to just 24 percent (14-of-57) shooting and forced 16 turnovers in the game.
"We were very sporadic and undisciplined in the first and second quarters," head coach Joni Taylor said. "Then we finally settled in and got the ball inside where our post players took advantage of our size and started making plays."
Robinson led all scorers in the first period with six points, helping Georgia build a 16-10 advantage through 10 minutes. Staiti then heated up from the floor in the second frame and the Lady Bulldogs' defense held the Bears to just three second-period baskets en route to a 28-16 lead at the break.
Robinson scored Georgia's first nine points in the second half as Georgia's lead swelled to 48-23 at the end of three. Morgan State made a trio of baskets in the final period as the Lady Bulldogs held on for the 60-33 win.
In addition to Robinson and Staiti, redshirt junior guard Taja Cole added nine points — just short of her fifth-straight double figure scoring game.
