Georgia Falls to No. 20 Ole Miss, 4-1

September 21, 2017 | Soccer

OXFORD, Miss. --- Mariel Gutierrez scored late in the second half, but it was not enough to beat the Rebels as Georgia (4-5-1, 0-2 SEC) fell, 4-1, to No. 20 Ole Miss (8-1-1, 1-1 SEC) on Thursday night at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

"It was a difficult game for us," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said.  "We put ourselves behind early. They came out faster and more aggressive and got the early goals against us, making us fight an up hill battle from there. We didn't play with the energy or the urgency that we needed to and it came back to hurt us here.  It's very disappointing."

Kelsey Killean took the first shot of the game, but it was the Rebels who struck the score board first.  Ole Miss took an early lead at the 4:35 mark and notched another goal in the 10th minute.

The Rebels held the 2-0 advantage through the first half although the Bulldogs took the same number of shots (7).

Ole Miss widened the gap to 3-0 in the 56th minute, before Mariel Gutierrez was able to put Georgia on the board from the far corner of the box 15 minutes later.

The Bulldogs return to Athens for their first SEC game at home against the Vanderbilt Commodores Sunday, September 24 at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
